Regular Shows

The Improverts

The Improverts is Bedlam’s resident Improvised Comedy Troupe! We perform every Friday night of term time in Bedlam Theatre and every night of the Edinburgh Fringe.

There’s lots of great ways to get involved with The Improverts, both on and off stage. We run weekly workshops about performing improv on a Saturday 12pm-2pm, which are free to attend and open to everyone. Come along to try out your improv in a relaxed, supportive environment!

We also run a weekly tech workshop before the show every Friday, which starts at 9pm. The Improverts tech workshop is a fantastic opportunity for beginners, with experienced techies present to assist and explain the setup. You also get to tech the show that evening!

One of the best ways to get involved is also to come and see the show, learn a bit about us and hear about any new opportunities we have that week.

Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter @theimproverts and send us a DM if you have any questions at all!

Now in its 16th year, Candlewasters is the EUTC’s dedicated new writing company, presenting a unique opportunity for local writers to see their work showcased on stage. Throughout the year, submissions are opened for short scripts, from which our team selects a number to be featured in one of our three showcases. These showcases are presented by our talented repertoire of actors and directors, auditioned at the start of the year. Candlewasters has been a longstanding tradition within the EUTC, with notable alumni including Ella Hickson, Lucy Kirkwood and Sam Holcroft.

You can get involved in Candlewasters in many different ways:

  • Writing - We are the EUTC’s dedicated new-writing company. Our script submissions are opened 3 times a year, giving you the opportunity to see your work showcased on stage. Formely known as Writer’s Guild, the Candlewasters team runs the EUTC Candlewicks! If you would like a second opinion on your script, email it to Candlewicks: a feedback service run by fellow writers who provide constructive comments to help improve your writing. Feedback on your script takes roughly 4 days. Just send in your script to [email protected]

  • Acting and Directing - Candlewasters holds auditions at the start of the year for our company of 12 actors and 6 directors. All actors and directors participate in our 3 showcases of the year, giving all the opportunity to test their range.

  • Stage - If you want to get some experience working in stage managing, please email us at [email protected]

Youth Project

The Edinburgh University Theatre Company (EUTC) produces over forty shows a year which, along with dedicated theatre workshops, provide students with opportunities to learn about all aspects of theatre, including lighting design, sound-scaping, stage design, producing, directing and acting. Through the Bedlam Theatre Youth Project we want to share the skills we’ve learnt with local children and young people.

We hold free workshops throughout the school year and then put on a show each Spring. In 2016 we put on a spectacular production of the Jungle Book and last year James and the Giant Peach! Our last show in 2019 was Good Morning Olympus.

If your child(ren) would like to get involved please get in touch at: [email protected]
