Hello!
Happy Easter week and best of luck to all those working on finals and exams! This will be my last newsletter for a while, but as we’re wrapping up for the year, Bedlam still has a couple of super cool shows to get you through finals season. Tickets are currently up for Jellyfish and Imps, so be sure to check those out. There will soon be tickets up for That Will Stain The Marble! There will also be a GM on the 23rd at 1 pm where the company will be voting on our first couple of shows to start out the next school year, so be there to have your say!
Have a good week!

A small riddle for fun: (Answer at the bottom) “Without a U, it’s a tree of the willow family. With a U in the middle, it’s a song sung by Galinda in the Broadway show “Wicked.” What are the two words?”
Upcoming Events
Jellyfish “Practice makes perfect, but perfect is this house! And it must stay that way”
We follow the square lives of Smiff and Willow—a stagnating married couple—whose daily routines are disrupted by the arrival of an anthropomorphic, destructive, and surprisingly stylish Jellyfish-person. As Willow desires greener grass, and Smiff preserves his perfect sanctuary, the two play tug-of-war over Jellyfish for a slew of selfish needs. Their bickering pushes the pair to clash in a crescendo, causing the crumbling of their sweet, crocheted, boxy, IKEA world.
JELLYFISH is a one-act, absurdist comedy coming to Bedlam Theatre this April in collaboration with Filfbag Theatre. Winner of The University of Edinburgh’s Depart of English Literature Play Award 2024-2025 (Guthrie Endowment), William Osbon’s “weird and wonderfully original play” will have you “hooked and baited” (York Vision, 2024).
Imps Looking for a last minute date idea? Perhaps the perfect pres? Or just good ol’ fashion BORED? The Imps have got you covered (almost) EVERY Friday night at Bedlam Theatre! Edinburgh’s longest running improv troupe are back for another year of fast-paced, ferociously funny FIVE STAR improvised sketch comedy, based ENTIRELY on audience suggestions. The bravest of you may even end up on stage yourselves! Oh, and for those that indulge, it’s BYOB! The Improverts - the best way to spend (or start) a Friday night since 1989.
That Will Stain The Marble “I went to town the other day, I was feeling kind of homesick and I saw a shop I thought might belong to an Indian family but it didn’t - two French ladies owned it. They were selling all these murtis, like devotional statues. And they didn’t know what they were. They were selling them - but they didn’t know what they were.” Agatha is a reiki practitioner from Fulham with a love of all things kimchi, tempeh, and tabbouleh. When Anvi, a student from India, is invited to work on her husband Ben’s latest anthropology book, Agatha’s love of all things ‘exotic’ is tested, while Ben’s fascination with Asian culture climaxes. A dirty play about clean and healthy eating, That Will Stain the Marble explores how our history of theft and consumption has left us still greedy for more. Tickets coming soon!
Maintenance and Staffing
Every Sunday 12:00 to 14:00, we do theatre maintenance where we tidy up the building and make improvements. Bedlam runs on volunteer help, so you will be asked to attend one of these sessions if you have worked on a show in the theatre. Similarly, you will be required to help staff a show (or two if you did a mainterm) in exchange for the members who helped staff your show. You can log into your account on the Bedlam website to see if you have maintenance or staffing debt and sign up for a session to fulfill that. There are instructions on the website and people to help you in the building, so don’t worry if you’re new to any of the tasks! You can clear maintenance debt by coming to a Maintenance Session or talking to Maysan Abdidayim or Morgan Hazelip (Theatre Managers) at [email protected]. Likewise, you can contact Uppie Shah or Elise Chan (Front of House Managers) at [email protected] if you have any questions about staffing. You can sign up for your staffing slot here. Thanks for the help!
Welfare
For Bedlam-related welfare issues: [email protected]
Show-specific welfare reps: check your proposal or ask your producer if you’re not sure who that is! What we can help with: - Disagreements about show-related issues - Safety and well-being concerns on shows - Scheduling conflicts you’re not sure how to handle - Pretty much anything else related to a Bedlam show or the society itself!
Other welfare resources to keep on hand: For mental health concerns or non-theatre related issues, please reach out to the Edinburgh Student Wellbeing service or make an appointment with Edinburgh’s Student Counseling Service.
