I hope everyone’s Welcome Week has been a blast and that you’ve had fun at any events in Bedlam you’ve attended! Thank you to the Welcome Week team, Bedlam staffers, and the committee members this week who made it all come together. Coming up, we have our General Meeting on Wednesday where we’ll be voting on show proposals, electing liberation representatives, and electing a welfare contact. This week’s performances include the Imps on Friday and Breaking Point on Saturday. Tech and backstage assistant applications are out on the Bedlam Instagram for our Week 4 Mainterm, Antigone. The EUTC’s Candlewasters are taking creative writing submissions until September 21st, for further details, please visit our Facebook Group or the Candlewaster’s Instagram.
Have a great week, see you all soon!

General Meeting
Wednesday, 17 Sep. 14:00
Come along to our general meeting on Wednesday to vote on show proposals, elect liberation representatives, and a company welfare contact. The shows we’ll be voting on will fill the following slots in our schedule: Teatimes Week 7 & 8, Mainterm Week 8, Freshers Slot Week 10, Pantomime Week 11, and Supplementaries. As for elections, the EUTC annually elects six liberation representatives to represent the five groups defined by EUSA, as well as a liberation representative to combat elitism in the EUTC. We’ll also be electing one of the Company’s three main welfare contacts at this meeting, which is the non-committee welfare contact.
Imps
Friday 19 September
Looking for a last minute date idea? Perhaps the perfect pres? Or just good ol’ fashion BORED? The Imps have got you covered (almost) EVERY Friday night at Bedlam Theatre! Edinburgh’s longest running improv troupe are back for another year of fast-paced, ferociously funny FIVE STAR improvised sketch comedy, based ENTIRELY on audience suggestions. The bravest of you may even end up on stage yourselves! Oh, and for those that indulge, it’s BYOB! The Improverts - the best way to spend (or start) a Friday night since 1989. Breaking Point
Saturday, 20 September
A one-act psychological drama following Josh, a young Scottish man struggling with mental health issues, who finds himself arrested for alleged misogynistic behaviour online. The play examines how the crisis in young men’s mental health collides with flawed, misunderstood attempts to reject toxic culture—and how the fear of being labelled ‘toxic’ can itself become a form of psychological torment. Headfirst Theatre ‘Head-first into the story. Straight to the heart of it.’ We create visceral, character-driven theatre that brings real voices to the stage—balancing political bite with imaginative form. Grounded in both grit and hope, our work amplifies stories from communities too often unheard. Through raw emotion, shared moments, and bold storytelling, we spark connection and conversation. Every Sunday 12:00 to 14:00, we do theatre maintenance where we tidy up the building and make improvements. Bedlam runs on volunteer help, so you will be asked to attend one of these sessions if you have worked on a show in the theatre. Similarly, you will be required to help staff a show (or two if you did a mainterm) in exchange for the members who helped staff your show. You can log into your account on the Bedlam website to see if you have maintenance or staffing debt and sign up for a session to fulfill that. There are instructions on the website and people to help you in the building, so don’t worry if you’re new to any of the tasks! You can clear maintenance debt by coming to a Maintenance Session or talking to Maysan Abdidayim or Morgan Hazelip (Theatre Managers) at [email protected]. Likewise, you can contact Uppie Shah or Elise Chan (Front of House Managers) at [email protected] if you have any questions about staffing. You can sign up for your staffing slot here. Thanks for the help!
For Bedlam-related welfare issues: [email protected]
Show-specific welfare reps: check your proposal or ask your producer if you’re not sure who that is! What we can help with: - Disagreements about show-related issues - Safety and well-being concerns on shows - Scheduling conflicts you’re not sure how to handle - Pretty much anything else related to a Bedlam show or the society itself!
Other welfare resources to keep on hand: For mental health concerns or non-theatre related issues, please reach out to the Edinburgh Student Wellbeing service or make an appointment with Edinburgh’s Student Counseling Service.
