Hello!

Congrats to everyone on finishing classes for the term, and hopefully, all finals are going well! I want to say a huge thank you to the Panto show team, assistants, and cast for creating such a fun show and a great environment to be a part of. This week, we have an Improverts show and some external hires coming in to put on some fun productions! Metamorphoses is looking for set assistants currently via a form on the Facebook group, and the Bedlam committee has released a mid-year feedback form open to all company members to fill out.

Have a great week!

Set Assistant Applications for Metamorphoses Calling all Greek mythology fanatics, creative minds, and general builders of things. We are now looking for set assistants for this years BFOP. Assisting will include both a get-in (a period before the show to help set up the stage and tech) and get-out (period directly after the show to help take everything off). If you’re interested please fill out the form, we have many positions and many hands will be needed so feel free to fill out the form even (perhaps especially in this case) if you can’t make every date. There is NO minimum time commitment, nor do we expect you every day of the week. The most important thing for us is passion. Application form

External Shows

The Caucasian Chalk Circle tells the story of a young servant, Grusha, who rescues an abandoned child during a civil war and sacrifices everything to protect him. Meanwhile, drunk scribe Azdak finds himself in the role of judge and passes rulings that criticise those in power. Grusha’s difficult journey will take her into Azdak’s court, where she will ultimately face the trial of ‘the chalk circle’.

With themes of social inequality and self-sacrifice, Bertolt Brecht’s classic play explores true justice and compassion over legal privilege and power. With a new translation by Alistair Beaton, this exciting production, by PASS BA Hons (Drama) students, stages this acclaimed play through a punk perspective and features original live music.

This amateur production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.

Mother, Maiden, Crone

It’s not about policing. It’s about respect… And looking absolutely filthy/gorgeous.

‘By the receding of my gums… Something wicked this way comes.’ A comedic and farcical retelling of Macbeth from the witches perspective… If the witches were a bimbo shot boy, a klepto DJ and a drag queen. Set on an imaginary strip in Edinburgh, colleagues of Club Limbo, Mother, Maiden and Crone, are confronted with Mcbride and her heinous hen party who are soon to find out the dos and don’ts of queer spaces.

Maintenance and Staffing

Every Sunday 12:00 to 14:00, we do theatre maintenance where we tidy up the building and make improvements. Bedlam runs on volunteer help, so you will be asked to attend one of these sessions if you have worked on a show in the theatre. Similarly, you will be required to help staff a show (or two if you did a mainterm) in exchange for the members who helped staff your show. You can log into your account on the Bedlam website to see if you have maintenance or staffing debt and sign up for a session to fulfill that. There are instructions on the website and people to help you in the building, so don’t worry if you’re new to any of the tasks! You can clear maintenance debt by coming to a Maintenance Session or talking to Maysan Abdidayim or Morgan Hazelip (Theatre Managers) at [email protected]. Likewise, you can contact Uppie Shah or Elise Chan (Front of House Managers) at [email protected] if you have any questions about staffing. You can sign up for your staffing slot here. Thanks for the help!

Welfare

For Bedlam-related welfare issues: [email protected]

Show-specific welfare reps: Check your proposal or ask your producer if you’re not sure who that is!

What we can help with: - Disagreements about show-related issues - Safety and well-being concerns on shows - Scheduling conflicts you’re not sure how to handle - Pretty much anything else related to a Bedlam show or the society itself!

Other welfare resources to keep on hand: For mental health concerns or non-theatre related issues, please reach out to the Edinburgh Student Wellbeing service or make an appointment with Edinburgh’s Student Counseling Service.
