Hello!
Hi everyone, happy Week 5! This week we enter the newly named “Mainterm Madness” season with a ticket deal to celebrate it. You can purchase a single £25 ticket which will give you entry to ShakeSoc’s Romeo and Juliet on the 11th, Footlight’s Kiss Me Kate on the 12th, and The Seagull at Bedlam Theatre on the 13th. The Improverts are also performing this Friday so make sure to support them!
The Seagull
Winner of the English and Scottish Literature Play Award!
Chekhov’s unparalleled exploration of art, ambition and generational tensions. ‘The Seagull’ straddles both heartbreak and humour as the foreground to navigating human creativity and connection.
As old actress Arkadina, her author lover Trigorin, and playwright son Konstantin visit a family estate, words become weapons and thoughts become currency. Konstantin is haunted by his endeavours to radicalise the ways that stories are told in the theatre, and finds himself spiralling after his love, the young actress Nina, runs away with Trigorin. Chekhov’s heartbreaking, funny and ever-relevant drama epitomises the consequences of ego, ambition and creative idealism into an ornate case-study on the nature of human relationships.
Please consider donating to our partner charity, Conscious Edinburgh, a registered mental health charity run by students, for students, providing both support and education about mental health. In our collaboration with them, we are implementing a couple of different welfare initiatives, and will be raising money for Conscious through QR codes at each of our performances. By partnering with Conscious, we hope to spread their charity’s mission as well as treat the sensitive nature of this production with the utmost care.
Mainterm Madness Ticket Deal In collaboration with the Edinburgh University Shakespeare Company and Edinburgh University Footlights, we are offering a 3-in-1 deal for all three Week 5 shows this semester for only £25! This includes a ticket to Romeo and Juliet on Wednesday the 11th, Kiss Me Kate on Thursday the 12th, and The Seagull on Friday the 13th.
Simply select the ‘Mainterm Madness Ticket Combo’ from our Friday show and tickets to the other two shows will land in your inbox within 24 hours!

Bedlam Sounds: Boys Can’t Drive
Bedlam Sounds LIVE kicks off a new music series celebrating emerging student bands and the craft of live sound at Bedlam Theatre
This edition features Boys Can’t Drive, a jazz/indie-rock student band bringing a fresh, experimental live set to our intimate theatrespace. Come along to the gig from 15:00-16:00 - expect inventive arrangements, energy, and a chance to see our rising stars in their element!
Join us for the FREE Live Mixing Workshop the same day morning (11:00-12:00). Learn how live gigs are set up and mixed, from microphones to balancing a room in real time. No prior sound or theatre experience required. Workshop participants can get hands-on experience assisting the technical running of the afternoon band performance. Walk away with skills you can use at gigs, bands, or your own future creative projects.
Ticket grants access to the live performance only. Workshop is free and open to all by separate sign-up here. Spaces are limited — sign up early!
Whether you’re here to hear new music, curious about the technical side of live shows, or just want a laid-back Sunday gig, Bedlam Sounds LIVE has it all. Come for the performance, stay for the process — or join us for both!
This week, our Tech Managers, Kiran and Zara, are sorting out tech equipment hires to Kiss Me Kate and Romeo and Juliet. Kiran has also run inspections on all the ladders in the building!
Every Sunday 12:00 to 14:00, we do theatre maintenance where we tidy up the building and make improvements. Bedlam runs on volunteer help, so you will be asked to attend one of these sessions if you have worked on a show in the theatre. Similarly, you will be required to help staff a show (or two if you did a mainterm) in exchange for the members who helped staff your show. You can log into your account on the Bedlam website to see if you have maintenance or staffing debt and sign up for a session to fulfill that. There are instructions on the website and people to help you in the building, so don’t worry if you’re new to any of the tasks! You can clear maintenance debt by coming to a Maintenance Session or talking to Maysan Abdidayim or Morgan Hazelip (Theatre Managers) at [email protected]. Likewise, you can contact Uppie Shah or Elise Chan (Front of House Managers) at [email protected] if you have any questions about staffing. You can sign up for your staffing slot here. Thanks for the help!
