WTF Is The Committee Doing?

This week, the Set Managers led a set-focused maintenance session and concentrated on prop organization in our prop store. The President is meeting with the Set Managers and Front of House Managers to discuss their goals for the semester and any issues facing their departments currently. She is also attempting to re-format the DM Checklist to make it easier to read.

The Archives

Written by Scarlett Guang.

Late November three years ago, Bedlam Theatre put on Lysistrata - a comedy originally by Aristophanes, translated from Ancient Greek by the director. The production was about a group of women who, sick of the war going on around them, try to end it by going on a sex strike. Since their husbands haven’t figured out a solution, the women of Greece - led by the titular Lysistrata - have decided to take matters into their own hands.

Nothing is new under the sun. So far as for the Ancient Greek women to realise that the most powerful tool in terms of changing the world we live in lies, not in any area higher up, but the very basics of sexual relations. However, for the limitation of time they could only use the denial of sex as the best way of coercion. Two thousand years later, this action itself could be seen as lying only in the grey grounds of objectification, which is somewhat ironic. Yet, we still see horrible news, about men, about women, about war, about sex. Maybe sex is the one of the major forces driving the world to move on after all.

Poster was cool. Although we had some hard times figuring out what the title actually is – I did not know that letter could be used as a S, I just thought it meant summation.

Maintenance and Staffing

Every Sunday 12:00 to 14:00, we do theatre maintenance where we tidy up the building and make improvements. Bedlam runs on volunteer help, so you will be asked to attend one of these sessions if you have worked on a show in the theatre. Similarly, you will be required to help staff a show (or two if you did a mainterm) in exchange for the members who helped staff your show. You can log into your account on the Bedlam website to see if you have maintenance or staffing debt and sign up for a session to fulfill that. There are instructions on the website and people to help you in the building, so don’t worry if you’re new to any of the tasks! You can clear maintenance debt by coming to a Maintenance Session or talking to Maysan Abdidayim or Morgan Hazelip (Theatre Managers) at [email protected]. Likewise, you can contact Uppie Shah or Elise Chan (Front of House Managers) at [email protected] if you have any questions about staffing. You can sign up for your staffing slot here. Thanks for the help!
