Showcasing some of the brightest upcoming talent in student theatre, Bedlam Theatre open it’s doors and invites you to the Bedlam Festival (20-26th January).
Bedlam Festival is a five day festival dedicated to performance and education in the dramatic arts. Operated by the longest student-run theatre in Britain, Bedlam Festival is completely administrated, staffed and performed by students and young people primarily studying at Edinburgh University.
Our programme features a dynamic and contemporary repertoire celebrating new works and budding writing talent. Hot off of their success with Goblin Story ‘outstanding’ (Edinburgh49), Charlotte Productions make their Bedlam Festival debut performing the juvenile epistolary tale ‘Love and Friendship’ by Jane Austen. Fresh from his Fringe success with troupe Improv, Will Naameh who possesses a ‘wonderful sense of comic timing and plot development’ (EdFringe Review), presents ‘One Man, One Multipack’ - an experimental comedy involving crisps. We are also proud to present Sea Wall by Simon Stephens, a beautiful, devastating and funny story by Simon Stephens about life, love and the sea. Returning to the festival we have a host of short original writing by members of the EUTC (Edinburgh University Theatre Company) titled ‘Candlewasters’ which has been a festival favourite since the festival began in the early 90s. Fringe favourites and Edinburgh’s longest-running improv comedy troupe, The Improverts, who guarantee ‘a lively and unforgettable comic spectacular’ (The Journal) are also part of our exciting programme for this year’s festival.
We are also presenting workshops on Directing, Tech, Theatrical Makeup and FX among many others aimed at all ability groups. If you would like to get involved with Bedlam Theatre and the EUTC then these are a great place to start and chat to current members.
In addition, our fully licensed cafe will also be in operation from midday to midnight serving competitively priced food and alcohol.
