‘Thou hast told a tale whose every word
Threatens eternal slaughter to the soul’
Boundary breaking when it was first performed nearly 400 years ago, join us in Hive in 2020 for our immersive adaptation of John Ford’s masterpiece. This violent Jacobean tragedy has a thrillingly modern outlook and promises to provoke the mind and disquiet the heart as brother and sister risk all by consummating their love in defiance of society, the law and the Church. Their relationship flouts taboos and sparks a passionate descent into hell. In this world rife with corruption, greed and misogyny, who will bear the blame, and who will pay the price?
In Ford’s world, the audience is challenged by ambiguous moral values and a frustrating search for meaning in life. The stage captures the spiritual uncertainties of a world which no longer accepts a universe informed by inscrutable reason or binding religious values.
Love, incest, deception and heartbreak fill the stage as the play hurtles towards its epic climax. In the dingy corners of the most sinful place in Edinburgh, experience this truly immersive production.
