‘Were I not a girl…’
Kicking off Bedlam Festival 2019 is Shrinking Violet Theatre Company’s first performance of BARRY. This devised, verbatim work in progress extravaganza explores the life of doctor James Barry. Though the first ‘woman’ to graduate from Edinburgh University (in 1812), they did so and lived out the rest of their life as a man.
Through Barry’s story we explore the contemporary experience of gender, misidentification and belonging. Expect lipsyncing, drag, verbatim, big skirts, wigs, death, human boats and much more! bringing the 19th century to present day baby!!
