Green-eyes, a murderer awaiting execution, is in a maximum security prison under constant surveillance, with two thieves, Maurice and Lefranc. Friendship becomes contorted by petty jealousies, and love becomes perverted by fear and distrust, under the pressure of the cell walls, hate and violence seem all that is destined to remain. This, Genet’s first and clearest play, has been staged in a vast range of styles from realistic to ritualistic. This production dares to escape from the boundaries of conventional theatre to carry the audience irresistibly into Genet’s wild and claustrophobic intentions…
