Description

Evam Indrajit is an absurdist play by Badal Sarkar, set in 1960s Calcutta, about a writer creating a play.

The playwright finds his characters in four college boys, Amal, Kamal, Vimal… and Indrajit. Though three of the students eventually conform to a conventional life of college, marriage and employment, one, Indrajit, breaks such tides.

Indrajit is disillusioned, doesn’t understand his purpose for action, cannot come to terms with love, Manasi, and struggles for something else – something possibly unattainable. Issues of existence and conformity overwhelm Indrajit’s life, and impede on the writer’s ability to actually construct a play.

The writer cannot configure a beginning or end. All is cyclical. All goes round and round. Due to Indrajit’s struggle, the writer’s quest breaks down. What is right? What is real? What will happen to his play?
