The play begins when the infamously ‘fabulous’ Bliss family each invite a guest to stay for the weekend at their 1920s country estate. These unsuspecting guests quickly become sucked into the Bliss family’s strange world of eccentricity, austere decadence, and self-obsession. The result is a hilarious comedy of manners: the dialogue is sharp and witty and the play moves smoothly from interaction to interaction until everyone seems effortlessly entangled in one farcical melodrama. The flamboyancy and narcissism of the family leave their guests ignored, humiliated and they become a wonderful parody of all that is English: embarrassed, uncomfortable, and helpless as they shuffle their feet and mumble about the weather. A strong, fast and funny play.
