Connal Morrison also directed a production of ‘ Faustus Kelly “ for the Company on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. “Faustus Kelly “ is a too little known dramatic work from the pen of Flann O’Brien, otherwise Brian O’Nolan, and probably better known for his column in the Irish Times, and comic novels such as “ The Third Policeman “, “ At Swim - Two - Birds etc. Sally Bates’ direction of Robert McLellan’s play “Jamie the Saxt” also an E.U.T.C. Festival Fringe brought a difficult piece of recent Scots theatre writing vividly alive, and the difficulties of McLellan’s dense Scots and frequently unattuned theatrical ear make the achievement of both herself and her cast all the more remarkable.
