On a remote dairy farm in the backwaters of Canada, Tom becomes a pawn in a family’s dangerous, grief-fuelled journey towards self-destruction.
When urban ad-executive Tom travels to the country for his lover’s funeral, he discovers that not only does the family waiting for him have no idea he exists, they did not know that their beloved son was gay. Threatened by his volatile brother Francis to keep quiet about the true nature of their relationship, and lost in a haze of grief, Tom falls further and further into an elaborate web of lies, until, like an ancient tragedy, he must confront the dark past that drove the love of his life to an early grave.
Wound together will all the psychosexual thrills of a lost Hitchcock classic, ‘Tom at the Farm’ offers a searing look at the legacy of homophobia and the cycle of violence left in its way. From award-winning Quebecois playwright Michel Marc Bouchard comes a gut-punch of a play, blending biting humour and stark honesty to lay bare the devastation of losing someone that once formed a part of who you are.
