Don’t Leave Us in the Corner: Bringing BIPOC People into the Spotlight

Looking around Bedlam you may have noticed that there is a lack of ethnic diversity – why is that? Especially considering that Bedlam, for the most part, supports blind casting, this is because BIPOC people face hidden barriers within theatre. This workshop will explore race within theatre by analysing some extract from Alice Childress’ “Trouble in Mind” followed by a discussion on barriers which exist within Bedlam and how to tackle them.

This workshop aims to provide directors with the tools adopted by BIPOC characters fairly inaccurately without falling into the depths of stereotypes in order to bring true diversity.
