Playwriting Workshop
with Colin Mortimer
If you have got the ideas, these workshops will help you to give them the right shape. Using simple exercises you’ll explore dramatic technique: structure, character, dialogue and more, and you’ll write a play!

Directing & Storytelling
with John Tiffany
In conjunction with the Traverse’s new play Stones and Ashes, this workshop focuses on narrative methods and storytelling. John Tiffany is currently the resident Artistic Director at the Traverse Theatre and is working on Stones and Ashes.

What does a director actually do? Explore this question and many more through fun group exercises and discussion.

Production

An introduction to the world of production, who to put on a play and how to avoid or deal with the problems that may arise on the way. This workshop will explain the role of the producer and the responsibilities that come with the job as well as tips on how to work alongside the rest of the production crew.

Physical Theatre
with Benchtours
This workshop offers the participants the opportunity to use their imagination, tp work together in the creative process and to extend their knowledge of performance and the production process. This workshop will involve games and exercises regarding different body tensions; complicity and chorus work; the ‘playing of text’ and the establishment of atmospheres. Benchtours are an Edinburgh based international ensemble who create a unique form of fast paced theatre which is accessible, innovative, provocative and funny.

A light hearted introduction to basic performance techniques by using improvisation and games. You’ll explore the arts of trust and confidence building and look at how to work within a group.

How do you design a set that is both creative and practical? This workshop explores the whole process of designing from finding those first inspirational ideas to set building itself.

Concert Lighting
with Chris Brown
The world of rock and roll lighting is one of huge budgets, vast arrays of lights and dazzling effects. This workshop gives an introduction to this, using slightly more down to earth equipment. Chris Brown is owner of the Lighthouse, one of Edinburgh’s major concert lighting design hire firms.
