Committees now tend to be more involved than they were in the past. It was not unknown for no Committee member to attend Company meetings. Although financially the situation is much improved as a result, there is perhaps less freedom to experiment artistically in the prevailing climate than there was, which is regretted by a number of ‘ old hands ‘. In such circumstances something usually has to give, although, to its credit, E.U.T.C. has kept the majority of its earlier principles intact: for instance, turning, down substantial sponsorship for Stewart Botting’s production of Ionesco’s.” Rhinoceros”, from a company with links with South Africa.
