Friction between lunchtime ‘ shows’ and ‘main terms’ could reach giddy heights when the traditional experimentation in lunchtime productions threatened the mainterm set. Classic examples of this include Jimmy Patterson’s “ The Gambler “.
A friend of Keni Davidson’s, Jimmy was influenced to break free of theatre’s restrictions. His Gambler lived on a desert island. No desert island is complete without surrounding water, so Jimmy proposed to flood the stage, and despite the well - articulated fears of the “Baliegangaire” team, succeded in pulling this off, although Cramond beach lost a few grains of sand that week as a result.
