‘Things I Know to be true’ captures what it means to grow up and how finding one’s own happiness can mean hurting those you love the most. Bob and Fran have made their own little world at 25 Windarie Avenue with their four loving children; Rosie, Pip, Mark/Mia and Ben. However, as their children begin to find their own way in the world, Bob and Fran are left to come to terms with the life they have built. The couple struggle to cope with the changes, leading them to question whether they have been good parents and whether they have truly found happiness. Bob channels this into his beautiful rose garden, a focal point for the entire family, yet Fran struggles to do the same; losing faith in their relationship. As their children try to find their own happiness, Bob and Fran desperately try to hold on to what once was. Simultaneously heartwarming and heartbreaking, the play beautifully demonstrates the complexity of wanting to grow whilst also not wanting to let go of the past.
